OMORI is a game I discovered back in 2020. At first, the game seems strange, almost childish in its appearance and gameplay, but as you continue playing, you soon realize there is a much darker story behind its façade. Most of the game is played in an area called "Headspace, which is essentially a dream world created by the main character, SUNNY. SUNNY is a young boy who lost his older sister, MARI, four years previous. Due to this loss, SUNNY and his childhood friends drifted apart from the grief. SUNNY took it especially hard, never leaving his house since then.
In Headspace, SUNNY has created fantasy world where his friends are still together and his sister is alive, in order to cope. However, instead of allowing himself to be called Sunny, his dream friends call him OMORI.
Throughout the game, you wake up from your dream and face reality as one of your friends, KEL, invites you to walk around town with him before you move away in three days. The game deals with heavy topics of depression, grief, death, and suicide as you play.
